Native species are living organisms that can be plant, animal, bacteria, fungus, mold, etc., that has always lived in our region. These organisms make up our ecosystem and all have a specific function or job to do in it. Some you may like, some you may not like, and some you may be afraid or allergic to. But they all are important to the ecosystem, so we must protect them in places that are not ours (like parks and such).
You will learn a lot here on many animals and some plants that are important in the Hampton Roads area. These are not pets, so unless you are trained to take care of these animals, leave them be in their own habitat.
